Privacy policy
Last updated:
We built PDFacile to collect as little as possible. This policy explains, in plain language, what data we handle when you use the site, why, how long we keep it and what rights you have.
Who we are
PDFacile is operated by Your Company Ltd, which is responsible for processing your personal data as described in this policy (the "controller" under data protection laws such as the GDPR).
If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at [email protected].
The short version
- No accounts, no sign-up and no user database.
- Uploaded files are deleted as soon as processing finishes.
- Result files are deleted automatically after 30 minutes, or immediately if you click "Delete now".
- We never look at, sell, share, index or train on your documents.
- No cookies, analytics or ads by default.
- Reviews you leave are anonymous and only published with your consent.
Files you upload
When you use a tool, your files are sent to our servers over an encrypted HTTPS connection. We use them only to perform the operation you requested.
Uploaded source files are stored under random filenames in a temporary directory and deleted immediately after processing finishes, whether the operation succeeds or fails.
The result file is kept only so you can download it through a random, unguessable link. The link expires after 30 minutes, and an automatic cleanup job then deletes the file. You can also click "Delete now" to delete it right away.
We do not open, read or review your documents, and we never sell or share them, index them or use them to train any model.
Passwords
If you use the Protect or Unlock tools, the password you enter is used only for that single operation. It is never stored and never written to our logs.
Server logs and abuse prevention
Like most websites, our servers keep technical logs so we can keep the service secure and reliable. These logs contain:
- The request method and path (for example, which tool page was requested)
- The response status code and response time
- Error codes, if something went wrong
What we don't log
We never log the contents of your documents, the names of files you upload or any passwords you enter.
To prevent abuse, our rate limiting keeps IP addresses in memory for a short window only. They are not written to a database and are discarded automatically once that window ends. Our legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and available.
Cookies and local storage
We don't set any cookies by default.
The site remembers your theme choice (light, dark or system) in your browser's localStorage. This setting stays on your device and is never sent to us. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.
If you leave a review, the site also stores the date you sent it in your browser’s localStorage, so we don’t ask for your feedback again for 30 days. This stays on your device.
Analytics and advertising
We don't use analytics or advertising by default. If we ever add them, we will update this policy before that happens and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
Contact form
If you use our contact form, the name, email address and message you submit are emailed to us so we can reply. They are not stored in a database. We keep the email only as long as needed to handle your request and any follow-up.
Our legal basis for this is your request to be contacted and our legitimate interest in answering it.
Reviews and ratings
After processing a file, you can rate the tool and, if you wish, leave a comment and a first name. We only store the rating, the comment, the first name, the tool used, the site language and the date: no IP address, no identifier and no information about your device. Links, email addresses and phone numbers are refused.
Your comment is only published on the site if you tick the consent box, and only after we have read it. Otherwise it stays private and is only used to improve the service; in that case your first name is not kept. Ratings are also used to calculate the average rating shown on the site. Separately, we count the number of files processed, completely anonymously.
To have a review removed or deleted, write to [email protected] with its text and approximate date. The legal basis is your consent for publication, and our legitimate interest in improving the service for everything else.
PDFacile Chrome extension
The optional PDFacile extension for Chrome only acts when you use it: its toolbar button, a right-click menu item or its keyword in the address bar. It contains no analytics, no advertising and no remote code, and it does not read the pages you browse.
When you ask it to open a file (a PDF, an image or a link), the extension downloads that file in your browser from the site that hosts it, with your cookies for that site so that files behind a login work, and hands it to the PDFacile tool page in the same browser. The file stays in the extension’s local storage for at most 2 minutes, only for this handover, and is then deleted. It reaches our servers only if you then start the tool, exactly as if you had chosen the file yourself; some tools process it entirely in your browser.
To read a file from another site, the extension asks Chrome for permission for that site only; you can withdraw it at any time in Chrome’s extension settings. Screenshots are taken locally, in your browser.
“Save page as PDF” opens our HTML to PDF tool with the address of the page you are viewing already filled in. That address is sent to our servers only when you click Convert; the page is then loaded by our server as an anonymous visitor, without your cookies.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict its processing, and to receive a copy of it. Because we keep so little data, in most cases there is simply nothing stored about you.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the "last updated" date above before the change takes effect. For significant changes, we will make that clear on the site.
