How to redact a PDF

Step 1: Select or drop your PDF.

Step 2: Draw boxes over the text or images you want to remove.

Step 3: Check every page carefully.

Hiding isn't the same as removing
Putting a black rectangle over text in most editors only hides it: the words can still be copied, searched or extracted. Real redaction deletes the content, which matters when you share contracts, records or case files.
Use it for personal data, account numbers, addresses or anything else that shouldn't leave your hands.
How does redaction work?
Each page that contains a redaction is rebuilt as an image with the black boxes burned in, so the hidden text and images no longer exist in the file and can't be copied, searched or recovered. Pages without redactions keep their original text.
The trade-off is that redacted pages are no longer text-selectable. Double-check your boxes before downloading, because the removal can't be undone in the result.
Frequently asked questions
Can redacted content be recovered?
No. Pages with redactions are flattened into images, so the content under the boxes is gone from the file.
Why can't I select text on some pages anymore?
Pages that contain redactions are rebuilt as images to remove the hidden content. Pages you didn't redact keep their selectable text.
How is this different from white-out in Edit PDF?
White-out only covers content visually and the text stays in the file. Redaction removes it permanently.
Is my confidential file stored?
Files are sent over HTTPS and the upload is deleted right after processing. The redacted PDF is available for 30 minutes, then deleted automatically, or immediately with Delete now.
