How to compare two PDFs

Catch every change
When a contract, policy or report comes back "with a few edits", reading both versions line by line is slow and easy to get wrong. A comparison shows exactly which words were removed and added.
Because it runs in your browser, it's suited to confidential drafts you'd rather not upload anywhere.
How does the comparison work?
Both files are opened directly in your browser. Their text is extracted and compared word by word: words removed from the first file and words added in the second are highlighted, with a count of each.
Only text is compared, not formatting, layout or images. Scanned PDFs contain no text, so run them through OCR PDF first.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser and your files never leave your device.
Does it detect formatting changes?
No. It compares the words in each document. Changes to fonts, colors, layout or images aren't reported.
Can I compare scanned documents?
Not directly, because scans are images. Run both files through OCR PDF first, then compare the searchable versions.
Which file should I choose first?
Choose the original first and the revised version second. Removed words come from the first file and added words from the second.
