Page numbers make it simple to say "see page 12" in a meeting, put printed pages back in order and build a table of contents. Many schools, courts and publishers require them.
To leave the cover page unnumbered, number pages 2 onwards and start at 1.
Numbers are drawn as vector text on each selected page, at the position and size you choose. Nothing else on the page is changed, so the process is lossless and the file barely grows.
Only the pages in your range are numbered, and the count runs across those pages only, beginning at your start number.
Type 2- in the pages field to number from page 2 to the end. Keep the start number at 1 if you want the second page to show 1, or set it to 2 to match the physical page.
Choose the "1 of 12" format for the total count, or "Page 1" for a labeled number. The total reflects the pages being numbered.
They are placed close to the page edge. If a page has content right at the margin, try a different position or a smaller size.
Your upload is deleted immediately after numbering. The numbered PDF stays available for 30 minutes and is then deleted automatically, unless you delete it sooner.
